Once upon a time, a sloth in a party hat was trying to find her way to Sarah's house for a birthday party. However, being a sloth, she wasn't able to drive and thus quickly became lost outside the forest.
A squirrel chittered at Miss Sloth and ran down the street. Every now and then, it paused and looked back to wait for the sloth to catch up. Soon sloth and squirrel reached a cave with a blue light shining from within.
Inside the cave was a pool, and above the pool were thousands of floating lights. The squirrel began to glow; its body turned round, and it floated up into the air.
I am the Spirit of Birthdays, said the former squirrel. Let me guide you, little sloth, to Sarah's party.
Miss Sloth was amazed at the majesty of the Spirit of Birthdays. Never before had she gazed upon a creature of such whimsy and fantasy! If anyone could help her get to Sarah's house in time for her birthdays, it would be this magical squirrel.
"Golly!" exclaimed Miss Sloth. "That would sure be swell of you, O Great Spirit of Birthdays. But however shall we get there?"
Why, by submarine, of course! said the Spirit of Birthdays, with a wry smile about its whiskers. Look yonder and you shall see the vessel that you shall embark to reach Sarah's party.
The Spirit of Birthdays stretched out an ethereal paw and pointed down towards the pool. Miss Sloth craned her head to look where the spirit pointed: as she watched, she saw a slow stream of bubbles rise slowly from its depths... as a magnificent Yellow Submarine surfaced, ready and waiting for her to ride to the party!
The Yellow Submarine! That mystical, magical machine spoken of in song by the coleoptera! Or so Miss Sloth had heard.
"Gosh!" said Miss Sloth, for this seemed to be the proper response to a submarine emerging from the depths of a pool in a cave at the command of a floating ethereal squirrel. "How wonderful!"
Oh, said the Spirit of Birthdays, but this is but a small part of the wonders you will see, for the journey to Sarah's house, though short, is full of fantastic sights. Climb in, and we will begin.
And so Miss Sloth climbed into the Yellow Submarine. Being a sloth, this took quite some time, though not so long as it would have taken to arrive at Sarah's house on her own. And the Spirit of Birthdays was patient, waiting until Miss Sloth had found her way inside before disappearing within as well. The hatch closed behind them and the submarine submerged once more into the pool as they began their marvelous journey to Sarah's landlocked and desertous home.
This would, of course, be no problem, though, for the Yellow Submarine is no ordinary submarine.
i'm very proud of all that you've accomplished this year! it's great to see you getting closer and closer to reaching your dream, with all the student teaching! even if it's stressful sometimes, i know you'll be able to do it. i already can't wait to hear of your adventures as a teacher, especially with how cool of a student teacher you already are!
even if we don't talk much anymore, you're still one of my favorite people around, so i hope you have a great birthday! <3
I know we don't talk much, but you're super great. It sounds like student teaching is going well, even if it's stressful, but I know it's something that you've been working towards, so congratulations! On everything in your life.
First and foremost: Happy Birthday! You've had a long day and, I hope, you can get some rest tonight and tomorrow. You deserve it! You've been working very hard these last couple months with student teaching and I couldn't be prouder of you. You've been making enormous strides towards becoming a teacher--and I know the future has amazing things in store for you.
I don't think I can really properly say in words how much of a dear friend you are to me. All the time we spend talking, playing games, and writing together makes me so happy. (Especially when it's silly stuff. If we can ever get the connection to behave, I'm really looking forward to our future runs of RE5!!) Every time I sit and really think about it, I have to count my lucky stars that we kept running into each other online. I'd like to think that, with how things are now, we'll continue to be friends for many more years to come.
I hope that you have a great year full of science, fun games, and plenty of yummy food. <3 <3
Sincerely, Silvie

Hi Sarah! First of all, happy birthday! I'm sorry you've had such a long day. I know we don't talk much, but whenever I see your plurks it makes me smile because you're a really funny, silly person who also has a good head on their shoulder and seems to be headed towards a great career in the field of SCIENCE.
Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. You are definitely one of my favourite people to hang out with! I would probably jump out a window to escape having to rank my friends or anything, but I can with great certainty say you would be high up there if I were trapped in a windowless room and absolutely had to do so. You're, like, Joey's Rattata-tier. Though then when it comes to expressing how much I like people, I often find myself struggling to put my thoughts in order, which is why I am still in the middle of that Pokédressing love meme from...quite a while ago. (Perhaps I should abandon that one and begin on a different one. It's been a while since I last worked on it.) So forgive me if this turns out to be rather rambling and disconnected. It's written with love regardless.
Where to begin? You're clever and witty. I certainly am never bored when talking with you. It certainly doesn't hurt that you have great taste from my opinion, which means we have a number of common interests. But that isn't even necessary. I am quite willing to listen to you opine on topics I am only vaguely aware of. (Aside: checking to make sure I have the right definition of opine in mind, Wikipedia informs me that opine as a noun is a compound in plant biology. I assure you I intended the verb, though it seems somehow appropriate that there is this second meaning.) You can certainly catch my interest regardless, which is a good sign that you are on the right career path.
And I certainly believe that you are going to be a most wonderful teacher. I sometimes worry for you, because I know you care deeply for students and the education they will receive, and the system is not always kind to those who care. But while it may end up tough for you some days, it will be for your students' benefit. You have the enthusiasm for your subject and the eloquence to express it. (I have a feeling that you will deny your eloquence. I recognize that you sometimes choose an especially casual manner of speech. But I have listened to you expressing your enthusiasm for various subjects and I assure you that the adjective fits.) You also have the sense of humour required, if the kids are willing to lend their ears to your corny lines, so to speak. I know you will be the very best teacher you can be, which is pretty damn best. And if things do get tough for you (like this student teaching currently), there are plenty of people who will do their best to support you. I certainly can say that is the case for me! Fai-to! Sis boom bah, etc.
So, tangentially related, but I have noticed increasingly that I associate you with almost every bit of cool science I encounter. That's a pretty high compliment! I mean, it's science! Science rules. To me, you are nearly as awesome as science. You would be as awesome as science or more awesome than science, but let's be real. No one is as awesome as science! But you get pretty close.
Sarah, I am really so happy that you have let me be your friend. I am glad that we get to talk late into the night (when I am not being a recluse with terrible time management skills, which to be honest is pretty often). I feel honoured that you are willing to let me see the parts of you that you consider shameless, because of what it implies to me, rightly or wrongly, about your trust in me. I am just in general proud to be able to point to this brilliant, beautiful, and other b-words young lady and say, "this is my friend!" I know you have a bright future ahead of you and I hope that I'll be a part of that for a long, long time.
I could ramble on about other things – perhaps I could expound upon how your roleplaying continues to be great, even if neither of us have been doing nearly so much of that lately; I could, no doubt, point out your generosity and the large size of your metaphorical heart, even if I could not venture a guess on the relative size of your literal, physical heart beyond that I doubt it is of especially unusual size; or, indeed, I could express that I hope to one day get to play some video games with you, as I have noted how much fun it looks when I see you playing them with others – but I think I will leave it here for now. It would be a good idea to ensure this is finished before it becomes not your birthday, even if I do have a fair amount of time thanks to your position on the globe. Ah, the wonders of the west coast and their slow clocks. Thanks, Sandford Fleming! So I will end it there. But rest assured that it is not an end to my love, which is boundless. Or, at least, near so far as to make no difference. Mathematicians often consider large enough numbers to be close enough to infinity in application, though not nearly so often as those bloody physicists do. So, there you go.
